Product care
Each pair of Roger Vivier souliers is made with utmost care from meticulously selected materials that demand special attention. Providing regular maintenance to your shoes will allow you to enjoy their beauty and comfort for a lifetime, which is what they were designed for.
- How to look after Roger Vivier souliers? To preserve the quality of the material of your Roger Vivier souliers, we recommend alternating them with other pairs after two consecutive days of wear. When not used, store them in the pouches provided upon purchase and keep them in a dry place away from any form of heat.
Avoid contact with water, solvents, greasy or abrasive substances to prevent deformation and stains. Finally, we recommend using a shoehorn to put your souliers on.
- Smooth leatherMaison Vivier uses different types of smooth calfskin leathers for its souliers. These leathers do not undergo any technical process to emphasise their plain smooth natural veining.
This type of leather has an irregular grain and is not resistant to scratches, scuffs and rubbing, especially on the parts of the product that are subject to the most wear and tear.
To care for smooth leather, start by removing light stains using a soft slightly damp cloth. Once the leather has dried, apply a high-quality colourless shoe polish with a soft cloth. Proceed by making circular movements to bring out the shine.
- Patent & mirror leatherThe patent leather used by Roger Vivier is calf leather polished through a special procedure to give the leather a bright and shiny finish.
To mantain it, use a soft, light-coloured, slightly damp cloth to clean it, then wipe with a clean, soft, dry cloth. To avoid colour transfer, limit contact with other leathers.
- Metallic leatherLaminated leather, also known as metallic leather, is characteristic by its finish, obtained by applying a very thin layer of metallic foil to the surface of the leather. This gives the product a shiny appearance. Metallic leather can be cleaned using a soft, dry cloth.
- Suede leatherRoger Vivier suede souliers are distinguished by their velvety feel, the result of fine craftsmanship. Caring for suede leather shoes requires a few simple steps to ensure they stay in prime condition:
- Use a soft bristle brush to remove dirt and dust. Brush gently in the direction of the grain to preserve its silky consistency.
- If your shoes come into contact with water, gently dab them with an absorbent cloth. Remove fresh stains as soon as they appear, using a clean, dry cloth. For superficial stains, you can also use a rubber brush.
- Store your suede shoes in a dry well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight, heat and humidity. Use shoe trees or paper to maintain their shape and absorb residual moisture.
- FabricsSouliers made of fabric should never be immersed in water or machine-washed, as this may damage them, cause discoloration or loosen the soles. After cleaning, let your shoes air-dry before storing them in their pouch, avoiding sources of heat.
Satin
Roger Vivier satin is made in Italy from carefully selected silk and viscose fibers. It is very delicate and sensitive to fraying. Clean gently with a slightly damp cloth and a garment stain remover, making gentle circular movements. Be careful not to damage this fabric by rubbing it against rough surfaces.
Velvet
Roger Vivier uses a shiny, soft and plush velvet. Slight marks may be visible if the fabric is pressed, but these are easily removed if the fabric is steamed. It can be cleaned with a damp sponge, rubbing gently. As this is an extremely delicate product, beware of rubbing, which can cause the velvety effect to disappear.
Denim
Roger Vivier's denim is a classic cotton premium Japanese denim. It should be cleaned with a garment stain remover. To remove dust and small stains, use a clean soft cloth slightly dampened with water. After cleaning, let the shoes air-dry in the shade. Avoid placing them in direct sunlight or heat. When not in use, store your shoes in a dry place away from direct sunlight.
Jaquard and Tulle
Clean with a soft dry cloth, taking care not to apply too much pressure. Do not expose to high temperatures and do not dry-clean with perchloric ethylene. Avoid abrasive products and steam.
Technical fabrics
Technical materials are made from synthetic fibers to meet specific requirements (elasticity, lightness, etc.). Mesh is made from an application of Framis film and 3D printing. It is manufactured using traditional methods that still require manual production phases by skilled craftsmen. To care for this product, wipe it with a soft dry natural-coloured cloth. If it comes into contact with liquids, wipe it immediately with water and leave it to dry in shaded fresh air. Do not machine wash or use chemicals to clean. Instead, we recommend seeing a cleaning specialist. Do not expose to direct sources of heat or sunlight for prolonged periods.
PVC
Despite its high durability, PVC is a synthetic fiber with low breathability and its surface may become faded with use. Surface dirt can be gently removed using a cloth dampened with water. Do not spray PVC with leather care products, as this may alter the material's transparency.
- RaffiaRaffia is a handcrafted material made from plant fibers by highly skilled artisans. The use of natural filaments in the designs gives the surface a characteristic roughness, pattern and colour. Slight variations in tone and the effect of natural shading, or any other imperfections, are not to be considered defects but integral to the material itself.
Maintaining raffia shoes requires a few precautions to maintain them in good condition:
- To clean the product, we recommend using a soft dry cloth, taking care not to exert too much pressure, which could lead to discoloration.
- Avoid exposing them to water whenever possible, as raffia is sensitive to humidity. If your shoes do get wet, let them air-dry, away from any source of direct heat.
- Use a soft brush to remove dust and light dirt.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight or other sources of heat.
- Store your shoes in a cool, dry place when not in use.
- Exotic leathersScaled leathers
To care for exotic leathers, use a soft dry cloth to clean them, then gently apply a quality colourless shoe polish in the direction of the scales to make them shine. These leathers are sensitive to humidity, so if they come into contact with water, dab them gently with an absorbent cloth.
Foal-effect leather
To clean foal-effect leathers, use a soft slightly damp cloth, always respecting the direction of the pile. Avoid repeated rubbing with abrasive objects (trouser hems, brushes, etc.), which can alter the structure of the hair.
